Tankha Art |
![]() |
| The Tai Situpas have had a long and illustrious connection to Tibetan tankha (a Tibetan religious painting mounted on brocade) art. His monastery in Tibet once had an extensive collection of tankhas from all of the great masters of the past. Of the original collection of 10,150 tankhas, only 100 survived. In Palpung Institute there are many wonderful murals especially the series of 9 large tankhas on the third floor of the shrine hall that depict the 8 great lineages of Tibetan Buddhism, the murals that cover the walls of the protector meditation room, the Four Great Kings who grace the entrance to the main temple, and the universal mandala/wheel of life found at the southern entrance to the Institute. A master tankha artist will take students who will be gradually guided through to mastery themselves. There will be no set syllabus or schedule, but the students will learn at the speed suitable for them in the traditional way it was taught in Tibet. |
