Monastic Life |

Monks come to Sherab Ling in several ways, some are referred from other monasteries to further their education - to join the monastic college, or the three-year retreat. In such cases they must have letters of introduction from their original monasteries. Some are offered to the monastery as children by parents who have sincere faith in the Tai Situpa and wish to offer their most sacred possession; their child. They enter the school where they will receive a monastic education, and are given robes & full board - all free of charge. At this stage they take no vows but are expected to follow three vows of not killing, stealing or lying and to follow the rules of the community. Many are from orphanges in Nepal and come to Sherabling to receive care and education which is freely provided by Tai Situpa. There are also the refugees from Tibet who are referred to Sherab Ling through the Tibetan Government in exile in Dharamsala. They may join either the college or the prayer monks. |
